Karim Rashid
(American, born 1960)
Karim Rashid is an Egyptian-born Canadian industrial designer known for producing luxury goods, chess sets, furniture, and dinner ware. “Design is about the betterment of our lives poetically, aesthetically, experientially, sensorially, and emotionally,” he has said. Born on September 18, 1960 in Cairo, Egypt, he was raised in Toronto and went on to attend Carleton University in Ottawa and later under Ettore Sottsass in Italy. Rashid has since created award-winning designs for companies such as Clicquot, Umbra, Bobble, Citibank, 3M, and Sony Ericsson. The designer is currently based out of New York, NY.
