Biography
Throughout his career, Lossow created many notable works, including portraits, landscapes, and historical scenes. His paintings are characterized by delicate brushwork, impressive color combinations, and a keen attention to detail. His work focused on themes such as love, beauty, and nature and often imparted a sense of romanticism.
One of Lossow's best-known portraits, Marie Antoinette (oil on canvas), fetched $14,173 at auction. The painting showcases the artist’s mastery of light and shadow, capturing the subject's delicacy and elegance.
Lossow's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the National Gallery in Berlin, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He died in 1897.
