Lars Lerin
(Swedish, born 1954)
Biography
Lars Lerin is a contemporary Swedish painter and author. Known as one of Scandinavia’s greatest watercolorists, Lerin’s depictions of both urban and rural quintessentially Nordic landscapes have made him a popular and sought-after artist in the region. Favoring a dark palette that captures the dark winters of his homeland, the artist works wet-into-wet paint to achieve his fluid compositions. He was born on April 2, 1954 in Munkfors, Sweden and studied fine arts at the Valand Art Academy in Gothenburg from 1980 to 1984. The municipality of Karlstad opened a museum in his honor, the Sand Lars Lerin, in 2012, exhibiting both his works and those of other artists. He is also the subject of the 2012 documentary For You Naked, which depicts his search for love and his eventual marriage to the dancer Manoel "Junior" Marques in 2009. In 2014, he was awarded Sweden’s prestigious August Prize for his book Naturlära. He lives and works in Hammaro, Sweden.
