Comments
An extremely detailed representation of a young woman in traditional Bernese costume with the typical traditional bonnet and silver jewellery. Although the portrait appears portrait-like, the artist was less interested in depicting a specific person than in portraying a girl from the Seeland. Although the person depicted was important, Anker took the liberty of typifying her (from: Sandor Kuthy, Albert Anker 1831-1910, Das künstlerische Werk, in: exhibition catalogue Seedamm-Kulturzentrum Pfäffikon SZ, Bern 1991, p. 16).
