Condition
On the original stretcher, with the old nailing. Some light frame marks along the edge of the image and with retouching in the lower left corner. In overall good condition
Comments
Born in Geneva, Bailly moved to Paris in 1904, where she was influenced by the Fauvist avant-garde. She returned to Switzerland shortly before the outbreak of the First World War and lived in Lausanne from 1923. However, she continued to visit Paris on her travels and created works with subjects from the metropolis, such as the present work "Les ponts de Paris". Bailly's free interpretation shows several bridges in Paris as well as the Conciergerie on the left-hand side of the picture, which is located to the west of the Île de la Cité.

Auf dem originalen Chassis, in der alten Nagelung. Am Bildrand leicht durch den Rahmen berieben und in der unteren linken Ecke mit Retuschen. In guter Gesamterhaltung
Erläuterungen
Die in Genf geborene Künstlerin zog 1904 nach Paris, wo sie von der fauvistisch orientierten Avantgarde beeinflusst wurde. Kurz vor Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs kehrte Bailly in die Schweiz zurück; ab 1923 lebte sie in Lausanne. Auf ihren Reisen besuchte sie jedoch immer wieder Paris, und es entstanden Werke mit Sujets aus der Metropole, wie im vorliegenden Werk "Les ponts de Paris". Bailly zeigt in freier Interpretation mehrere Brücken von Paris sowie auf der linken Bildseite die Conciergerie, die sich im Westen der Île de la Cité befindet.
