Comments
Arthur M. Hind suggested the attribution of the sheet to Benedetto Montagna, who worked in Vicenza. Charles V stayed in northern Italy from 1521 to 1525. Emperor Charles V left the government of the Habsburg hereditary lands to his brother Ferdinand and in turn ruled over Spain, Naples-Sicily and Burgundy.
Charles waged war in Northern Italy from 1521 to 1525. In 1527, the troops under his command carried out the so-called "Sacco di Roma", the sack of Rome, which brought the Italian campaign to an inglorious conclusion. He only returned to Germany for a short time after his coronation as emperor in Bologna in 1530.
